DMA Alhambra show “Dream Catcher!” October 2014
Dream Catcher followed on from four previous, critically acclaimed, productions at the Alhambra Theatre and once again delighted it’s sell out audiences. Deana’s career as a professional dancer gives her a wealth of experience in producing shows and as with every show she stages this is show was packed with huge production values. If you think this was just another “dancing school production” you need to think again. 200 talented children delighted the audience as they sang, danced and acted up a storm accompanied by a fabulous backing track, stunning new costumes and quite a few surprises along the way. The highlight was seeing Leona McLoughlin (the Dream Catcher!), Alycia Booth and Charlotte Marsh (the two dreamers) actually fly . . . . .
Following the “Sweet Dreamer” opening number which the school performed earlier this year at the London Palladium, our very own Dream Catcher took us on a wonderful journey as she explored “nocturnal dreams” in Act I. The little ones dreamt of fairies and princesses as we started in the nursery and progressed to Toby Hammond’s teen room. It’s said that using “blue light” technology late at night can mess with your head . . . well, the Apps on his iPad came to life in a colourful technologic ballet!
Then the Dream Catcher introduced the dreamers to the street where “Dreams Can Learn to Fly”. Act II explored “day dreams” . . . . power, freedom, money, fame, fortune, growing up . . . the list is endless. Ultimately though is it surely enough to dream of simply being happy? It was for this cast of 200 as they all took to the stage for the ensemble finale . . .
Of course now the show is over everyone says it “was the best one yet” – what can Deana possibly dream up for the next show?? Watch this space!!!
